  • weird superstitions

When it comes to Chinese New Year (to those who are anal and are politically correct.. then it's Lunar New Year)...
usually it's the same time when my parent's crazy beliefs and superstitions come out and rear its ugly head.
Some of the things they believe in are pretty extreme and weird, i have no idea from where it came from but for example:
on the first day of the year, you cannot:

    - shower/bathe at all until the second day (according to my friend's dad that's crazy and smelly)
-you cannot throw out your rubbish
-no sweeping, and if you sweep, it must be inwards and the dust cannot be thrown out,
    -no arguing/fighting

so basically on the first day of the year, u have a lot of smelly people and a dirty house. what a great way to start the year

Once when I was in Vietnam, my cousin told me that they believed that the moment you walked out the front door, and the first person you happened to see was female and she was walking the opposite direction to you, then you're day was ruined.

    Yes, we're sexist too...

I know other people have weird beliefs too... like not to walk under a ladder, or breaking a mirror gives you 7 years bad luck.

The best one I've heard was when you clink the glasses together for a drink, you must make eye contact with someone or it means you will have 7 years of bad sex.

Ahhh so that's how it happened... LOL

  • Happy Lunar new year guys

And so my trip to Darwin ended. I boarded a 7.30am flight back to Monday.
Good thing I took some pills-u know the kind that stops u from throwing up on urself, the person next to u.. etc etc
coz during the flight was extremely bumpy.

Basically i should be able to fly to Vn in June pretty much okay (provided that I am completely drugged up).. ahhh meds.. one of life's best creations.

coming back to melbourne was a climate shock. from crazy humidity to 20 degrees coldness. -_-"
i came back in time to celebrate the Lunar new year. trang's surprise birthday and my bf's birthday.
ahhh it's the month of birthdays. I am somewhere from broke and bankruptcy just getting presents.

speaking of New Years, for those who celebrate it... wishing u all a very happy and prosperous new year..

  • Darwin continued

    • New word I learnt whilst being in Darwin: Territorians... Because you know, they're from the Northern Territory, coming from Melbourne that's not a word you hear of much.
    • kinda disturbed that there are ants in the bathroom, i know there's a bug issue in NT (apparently) but my hotel room at the Darwin Central seems to have a lot. I don't mind if I kill the odd poor ant that somehow got confused on the 7th level but when that ant brings his whole posse.. then it freaks me out. Currently waiting for the hotel manager to source "some bug spray"
    • whenever I watch the news on tv here, it's like I'm at home... how so? It's mostly Melbourne news. It's so weird. Why do "Territorians" even care about what's going in on Melbourne? Seriously you'd think that their 6pm news would be more Northern Territory based.. well only channel 9 is. Channel 7 and Channel 10 are a bit slack with having their crew up here, so they do a loop of Melbourne news. Seriously lame. If I lived up here, I'd be outraged
    • I didn't want to mention this because I didn't want to sound "racist" but it's hard to ignore it. Everyday that I've walked to the office from the hotel room, there are lots of Aboriginal people loitering around at the park. To be truthful they haven't bothered me any shape or form but I can't help staring. But they loiter, almost like an eyesore ( I know it sounds terrible). On one occasion there was a lady lying in the park on boxes, actually it's been the same lady loitering with a group of men. The other night the lady was yelling after two men, one of them was sitting in the shopping trolley being pushed by the other. I walked to the office thinking W T F...
    • the humidity makes my hair frizz :(
    • i miss my bf a lot.

  • Darwin

It takes approximately 4hrs and 15minutes by plane to get to Darwin.

I was on a Jetstar flight where there was no source of entertainment except to twiddle my thumbs and hoped that I didn't have to use the bag where I would have to carry my breakfast because my stomach couldn't hold it.

When we landed and I started heading out, I felt a gush of the heat smack me in the face with it's humidity and lots of overbearing heat. It's just like Asia without the pollution and the over populated Asian people. Something to look forward to when I really go to Vietnam for.

After checking into my hotel room and reading the brochures that hotel usually leaves around.. It advised that due to Darwin's "tropical" weather, there is somewhat a bug issue and that it's common to find them even in hotel rooms.

OMG ... and i'm here until Friday

    *cries*

  • Remember me blog? Or more or less, do I remember you?
It seems I blog less here day after day, week after week, because i have very little to say anymore.
    Or do i?

I have random thoughts but not easily expressed For example:

    - why is it that xanga still doesn't have an app on android? it should. it would make my life easier. i don't want this rubbish of web access, i want an app. apps are easier

    - there is really limited options on xanga for macs.y is xanga so mac unfriendly. actually y is the whole entire world so mac unfriendly? considering everyone has some kind of an apple device in their household. apple should be ruling the internet world

-there are some friends who u go out of ur way to do things for them and they treat u badly. they continue to pretend that things are okay when they're not. actually, the question then becomes.. y r we still "pretend" friends

-i will be boarding a flight in a couple of hrs to darwin... i hate planes. i hate flying

-getting married in 2014. except i dont have an engagement ring yet. so how does that even work. i dunno, ask the other half... he knows

-watched "once upon a time in cabramatta"... its so sad for the parents who came here for a better life for their kids and their kids turning into druggies, they probably were better off not fleeing their countries at all

-going to VN in a couple of mths, vaccinations cost $155. freakin hell. i hate needles too

    -that is all
